Mitigating greenwashing in corporate social responsibility: Challenges, Impacts, and Optimal Solutions
Greenwashing undermines the credibility of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by misleading stakeholders and creating ethical dilemmas that weaken consumer trust. This paper explores the prevalence of greenwashing in CSR, particularly in emerging markets, and its implications for sustainability goals. Key factors such as corporate motives, regulatory loopholes, and stakeholder influence are analysed to understand the drivers of deceptive CSR practices. In this paper, we propose a systematic framework to mitigate greenwashing through enhanced governance mechanisms, stakeholder accountability, and transparent reporting standards. By integrating technological innovations and stricter compliance measures, we aim to ensure the authenticity of CSR initiatives, fostering sustainable corporate practices and long-term trust.
